What size blanket should I use on a King bed?
A standard King mattress is approximately 76 inches wide and 80 inches long before accounting for mattress depth. That means the blanket has to cover the mattress itself plus enough fabric to hang down both sides.
What about California King?

How much blanket width do you actually need?
Start with the width of your mattress. Then add the amount of blanket you want hanging down each side.

A King mattress is approximately 76" wide. If you want about 20" of blanket hanging down each side:
